Join Our Board of Directors
At Hospice Huronia, our volunteer Board of Directors provides leadership, governance, and stewardship to ensure compassionate hospice palliative care remains available to our community today and for generations to come.
Serving on the Board is an opportunity to use your professional experience, leadership skills, and community connections to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families facing end-of-life journeys.
What Does the Board Do?
The Board of Directors is responsible for the governance of Hospice Huronia. Board members provide strategic oversight and accountability while supporting the long-term sustainability of the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing organizational strategy and priorities
- Ensuring financial stewardship and accountability
- Monitoring organizational performance and quality outcomes
- Supporting risk management and regulatory compliance
- Hiring, supporting, and evaluating the Executive Director
- Serving as ambassadors for Hospice Huronia within the community
- Supporting fundraising and community engagement efforts
Board members do not manage the day-to-day operations of the hospice. Those responsibilities are delegated to the Executive Director and staff team.
What Is the Commitment?
Board members are expected to:
- Attend monthly Board meetings
- Participate on at least one Board Committee
- Review meeting materials in advance
- Attend key Hospice Huronia events when possible
- Serve as an ambassador for the organization within the community
- Commit to a three-year term, renewable once
Estimated time commitment: 5–10 hours per month.

What Is Expected of Board Members?
All Board members are expected to:
- Act in the best interests of Hospice Huronia
- Exercise sound judgment and independent thinking
- Maintain confidentiality
- Avoid conflicts of interest
- Participate actively in meetings and committees
- Support the mission, vision, and values of the organization
Board members serve as fiduciaries of the organization and are responsible for ensuring Hospice Huronia remains financially sustainable, accountable, and aligned with its charitable purpose.
